Watching Elmo

The little one has discovered the world of Sesame Street. The strange thing is that it hasn't changed much from when we were kids. Here is a photo of Elmo's two newest fans.

Holy Sign Batman!

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this church sign!

Motion Blur

I haven't been able to capture a photo of the little one with motion blurring behind him just yet. I'm working on it though. Also, he's getting closer and closer to crawling. He can get up on all four's now but he hasn't yet figured out how to take those first two steps.

Photos and white balance lesson

This is the original photo

This is the photo after I color-corrected it due to an incorrect white balance.

This photo was converted to grayscale and then cropped so that his eyes would be in the upper left corner. This follows the "rule of thirds" theory about photography.

And this photo was simply converted to grayscale.

Because the white balance wasn't 100% correct, the photo was changed to black and white. EDUCATION: A digital camera uses white balance to determine what is "white" under that lighting condition. The next time you're under flourescent bulbs, look around and see if some appear yellow and others appear blue. That's because they have a different light temperature - the blue ones are "daylight" and the yellow "cool white". The camera converts all the light in the image according to the color temperature. If you perform a custom white balance, than that, in theory, takes all the different temperatures of light falling on your subject and balances them out so that your colors are correct.

Anyway, let me know what you think of both the grayscale images and the cropping.

What do you think?

These are a couple of experimental photos. Do you like one over the other? If so, why?

What's that in front of your face?

Does this look like anyone you know?

What is that?

Check out this photo from one of my recent trips to a part of eastern Kentucky. Let me know what this farmer is raising in the blue and white containers. You may have to click on the photo to get an up close view.

A boy and his mum-muh

Recently the little one has been trying out new sounds. For example, we often hear him say "mum-muh mum-muh." Here's a photo of the baby with his mum-muh. This was taken after we returned from his trip to Lexington. If you click on the photo you can see his first tooth peeking through. We think that's why his cheeks are so pink -- but that remains to be seen.

Silhouette

I'm trying to photograph more silhouettes. It's tricky, but I think I'm getting the hang of it. At least, the hang of it with Photoshop's help. This is a photo of a boy and his Grandma Tuesday.

Rice cereal

Here are a few photos for you bloggers out there of the kiddo eating his first solid foods. His meal of choice was rice cereal. For the most part he was quite patient with his mother, however I thought I saw him yank the spoon out of her hands a couple of times. Enjoy!

O Tannenbaum

Here are some photos from our recent trip to the big city. I hope you enjoy them. As always, I certainly enjoy your comments.

What is a tannenbaum anyway?

Nevermind my insightful question ... Annette just answered it for me. Okay, for all of you smarty pants out there, what's the name of the UK Basketball Coach? (I'll bet she won't get this one ...)

The Buck Stops Here

Paul and I went hunting twice this weekend. On both Saturday and Sunday we were in the fields before sunrise. We thought this hunt was going so smoothly that we wouldn't have a good story to tell ... that was before we met the cattle. Let's just say it was more bull than Paul and I could handle.

Yesterday's Trip

These are a few photos from our Veterans Day trip yesterday. The photos are from our trip to the J.P. Speed Museum of Art and the Patriots Peace Memorial.
The plaque at the sight gives the symbolism of the monument in this way: "Those remembered here made the ultimate sacrifice. As a name is added, a brick is replaced with glass signifying our loss. This void becomes a point of light which will transform the memorial into a light filled space each day and illuminate the name. As evening approaches the light radiating outward into the community will ever remind us to celebrate the joy of freedom purchased by these brave men and women."
A great place to visit on this Veteran's Day.

Spooky faces

I shot this the night we carved pumpkins. I carved the bottom pumpkin in the photo.
