Photos and white balance lesson

This is the original photo

This is the photo after I color-corrected it due to an incorrect white balance.

This photo was converted to grayscale and then cropped so that his eyes would be in the upper left corner. This follows the "rule of thirds" theory about photography.

And this photo was simply converted to grayscale.

Because the white balance wasn't 100% correct, the photo was changed to black and white. EDUCATION: A digital camera uses white balance to determine what is "white" under that lighting condition. The next time you're under flourescent bulbs, look around and see if some appear yellow and others appear blue. That's because they have a different light temperature - the blue ones are "daylight" and the yellow "cool white". The camera converts all the light in the image according to the color temperature. If you perform a custom white balance, than that, in theory, takes all the different temperatures of light falling on your subject and balances them out so that your colors are correct.

Anyway, let me know what you think of both the grayscale images and the cropping.
